Marissa earned a B.S. degree from North Dakota State University in Human Development and Family Science in 2016. Marissa then went on to complete her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling at North Dakota State University’s Counselor Education program. Marissa spent the 2019-2020 school year interning at three different school sites as a school counselor working with students K-12. During that time, she provided individual counseling, group counseling, and taught classroom lessons. Marissa completed her clinical training at Birchwood Therapeutic Services and then went on to be trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Counseling Approach and Clinical Focus:
Marissa is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor working toward becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Marissa’s and theoretical approach is trauma-informed person-centered while using techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Play Therapy. Marissa is a LGTBQIA+ affirming clinician and is compassionate about creating a safe space for her clients who are addressing identity, and gender concerns. She is also trained in DC:0-5 and will work with children ages 0-5 years of age. Marissa works with all ages and provides individual, family, and couples counseling.
