Brain Spotting
Brainspotting Therapy
Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that involves identifying and processing specific points in the individual's field of vision, known as "brainspots," that are linked to emotional or physical distress. This technique is used to access and process deep-seated trauma, negative emotions, and other unresolved issues that may be stored in the brain and body.
During brainspotting therapy, the therapist helps the individual identify a brainspot by tracking their eye movements and observing physical and emotional responses. The individual then focuses on the brainspot while accessing and processing the associated memories, emotions, and sensations. This process can help release stored trauma and promote healing on a deeper level.
Brainspotting is based on the idea that where we look can have a direct impact on how we feel and process emotions. By focusing on specific brainspots, individuals can access and process unresolved issues that may be contributing to their psychological distress or physical symptoms.
Brainspotting is a relatively new therapeutic approach and is often used in conjunction with other forms of therapy, such as EMDR or cognitive-behavioral therapy. It can be particularly beneficial for individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and other challenging emotional issues. Brainspotting is typically conducted by trained therapists who have completed specific training in this technique.
