Denise Hellekson,
LPCC

Denise earned her bachelor’s degree in Counseling Theory (Independent Study) in 1983 from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She continued her education at St. Cloud State University and earned a master’s degree in both Community Counseling and Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling in 1986. She currently is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in North Dakota.

Denise has historically worked in nonprofit behavioral health settings and has worked with widely diverse populations. She currently works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families, and is LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Biography

Counseling Approach and Clinical Focus:

Denise’s approach to counseling is collaborative, and she offers a safe and caring environment to build supportive partnerships with her clients. Her goal is to help people develop a healthy, supportive, enriching relationship with themselves. She believes our relationship with ourselves is the cornerstone for healing, personal empowerment, and healthy relationships with others. Denise uses a holistic approach to help her clients understand how their body, mind, environment and past all contribute to their present experience.

Denise’s provides counseling services to address concerns regarding anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, relationship issues, self-esteem, personal adjustment issues, workplace issues, and personal growth/well-being enhancement. Denise uses techniques that involve Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, ART, Internal Family Systems Theory, Solution Focused Therapy, Strength-Based, and Mindfulness practices. She is also trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).

Denise is warm and welcoming and strives to connect with her patients. I always feel welcomed and heard. It took me some time to find a therapist I connected with and she has been great and I’ve been here for months now.
